My paintings explore the ideologies of abstraction and space, delving into the concept of how something simple like a line or a block shape can have a form of presence on a surface, how it can divide and section off a canvas, creating more shapes within the pre-existing forms that were laid down first. These paintings explore the use of colour, making decisions upon where certain colours belong on the canvas and the relation they have to each other, also exploring how the softer curved edge of one shape meets the sharper edge of another. My paintings reject the idea of representation and instead accept abstraction and materiality, focusing purely on the way the paint acts on the material it is painted upon.
