Drawing is the backbone of my work. My primary tool is a black felt tip pen. Drawing is impulsive and gratifying. Pen makes it permanent. I am interested in contour rather than volume, and the weight that line can create. My work outlines an emotional state, creating a sort of blueprint.
The overlying theme in my work is exhaustion and observation. My subjects are figures who reflect a state of fatigue. I draw from life, using models or happenstance recorded in a sketchbook. The immediacy and automatism that drawing provides helps convey the subject’s position. Currently my peaked interests take form in bodily fatigue, when the body functions automatically when the mind is exhausted. And the versus, when the body stops moving while the mind continues racing.
