Joasia Jakubowska’s art practice centres on using acrylic paint on canvas. The subject of Jakubowska’s paintings has been the body movement of the human form. A majority of the figures within the paintings are abstracted and the movement is captured with quick, gestural brushstrokes and line. Meanwhile other characters are painted in natural tones in more detail to stand out from the crowd as if your eye has been drawn to these particular people. However, they are not apart from the crowd as highlights of the same colour as the ‘light’ pushes them back into the scene. A fascination with light has led to a limited palette of colour with most of her paintings focusing vibrant or neon colours. Connection, unity and proximity are the key themes being depicted in Jakubowska’s paintings.
