My work is concerned with the formal ideas of line, colour and shape as well as the meanings we attach to them. This involves the use of found objects but also traditional art materials such as pigment and support. It searches for a place between distinct, and sometimes opposing, characteristics. Geometric versus organic, function versus form, individuality versus anonymity, painting versus sculpture, male versus female, order versus chance. It contains echoes of arte povera in the use of found objects but also post minimalist ideas. Ultimately, the work favours ambiguity over clarity as a more authentic reflection of our lived experience.
