My work attempts to depict mundane and familiar situations, with a particular interest in the way painting can reveal a particular atmosphere and underlying emotions. In my daily life, I look for scenes which incorporate the right ambience, spirit, colouring, vibrations. Artists that have influenced these choices are Goya, Morandi, Matisse, Cassatt, Neigel Fletcher, Oscar Bluemner and Jan Matulka. Similar to the way we recollect memories, I want my work to express warmth, coldness, melancholia, loneliness, calmness, shame etc, as well as some sort of story. Added to this is a fascination for the human body, its capabilities and its relationship with the surroundings, which help build an atmosphere filled with emotion.
